About the event
Evidence is continuing to grow regarding the health and wellness benefits of creating art. The very simple act of drawing and painting can release serotonin, dopamine, and oxytocin in the brain. In the health professions, art is becoming more recognized as a mechanism to promote wellness and mental health, to the point that some universities and communities are offering art prescriptions to those with mental health challenges. In this class led by educational psychologist Dr. Sarah Zappe of Kaleidoscope PA, health professionals will be introduced to research on art and wellness and be led in a watercolor activity. Also discussed will be strategies to encourage patients to consider creating art to help with their own health and wellness.
